symphony in steel |
 |
I have always been attracted to metal. I suspect my
attraction derives from my days of welding automobile parts into
funky metal sculptures. In simple objects such as screws, nuts and
automotive components, I see repeating patterns that create a beautiful
rhythm. Often, shapes break up this rhythm and create a kind of syncopation.
The symphony in steel series developed as I captured on film the
rhythms I found in a myriad of metal objects located at an antique
steam engine museum in Montana. Texture, shape and color are key
components in each of these images. By highlighting these details
and using unusual camera angles, I ask the viewer to change her perspective
of these humble objects, to see them anew and to recognize the beauty
in their rhythms.
